Carbon Recycling International Builds the World’s Largest CO2-to-Fuel Facility

n October 2022, our member Carbon Recycling International (CRI) completed the construction and commissioning of a new CO2-to-methanol production facility in Anyang city, China. With a production capacity of 110,000 tons of low-carbon intensity methanol per year, this facility is currently the largest of its kind in the world.

The Shunli CO2-to-methanol plant is owned by CRI shareholder Geely Tech., Shuncheng group, Shunju, Shunfeng, and MFE Shanghai. Utilising CRI’s cutting-edge Emissions-to-Liquids platform, this plant can recycle 160,000 tons of CO2 annually, which translates to a significant reduction in emissions associated with steel production.

Moreover, the clean fuel and chemicals produced by the plant will be supplied to local corporations, thus contributing to the establishment of circular value chains in the Chinese industry.
